Wichita State comeback from 12-3 deficit leaves ISU stunned

NORMAL — It was an implosion for the ages, and Illinois State baseball coach Bo Durkac probably aged 10 years Saturday at Duffy Bass Field.

Comfortably ahead 12-3 through six innings, the horrified Redbirds witnessed four relief pitchers cough up 12 runs while securing a mere nine outs as Wichita State stampeded back for a shocking 15-12 Missouri Valley Conference victory.

"It was a meltdown of epic proportions," a subdued Durkac said. "Sickening. This is going to hurt for a long time."

A cruise turned into a bumpy ride for ISU in the seventh. Relievers Jeffrey Barton and Jeff Lindgren allowed the first six Shockers to reach base.
