Whitney Young grad now at Valpo returns to Peoria as Valley scoring leader

PEORIA — Peoria basketball fans no doubt remember Javon Freeman and his Chicago Whitney Young high school boys basektball team playing in the state finals at Carver Arena. They won a Class 4A title in 2017 and finished runner-up in 2018.

Now a sophomore at Valparaiso, Freeman has now added Liberty to his last name (his uncle is former Illinois and NBA player Marcus Liberty) and is leading the Missouri Valley Conference in both scoring at 20.2 points per game and steals at 8.3.
