ST. LOUIS – Illinois State Track and Field standout Derek Wegman was one of four Missouri Valley Conference student-athletes to receive a $5,000 postgraduate scholarship from the conference, announced by Commissioner Doug Elgin on Thursday. Honorees were selected by the MVC Faculty Athletics Representatives Committee, based on their exemplary athletic and academic performances.
Wegman has been a member of Illinois State's men's track and field team the past four seasons, helping the 'Birds to back-to-back indoor track and field championships in the 2018 and 2019 seasons. He earned All-MVC status at the 2019 indoor track and field championships after finishing third in the long jump.
