Strong First Day Puts Women’s Golf in Tournament Title Contention

KIRKWOOD, Mo. – Behind two strong rounds of 305 and 309, the Illinois State Redbirds sit in second place overall, nine strokes behind the leader, after the first day of competition at the Diane Daugherty Invitational.

Illinois State's 614 was second only to Arkansas State's 605 on the first day. Bradley (617), South Dakota (619), Missouri State (622), Loyola Chicago (626), Lipscomb (627), Drake (630), Southern Illinois (632), Creighton (637), Lindenwood (641), UNI (645), Indiana State (645), Omaha (651), Central Michigan (658), and Valparaiso (680) all finished the first day behind the Redbirds.

Maria Toledo Bailey – the reigning MVC Golfer of the Week – opened her day with a six-over 77, which included a birdie and 10 pars for the team's third-best score of the round.
