No crown, but 10 wins for Illinois State football

NORMAL – The Illinois State football team could not possibly have exceeded its goal for the season.

With a mission of not only returning to Frisco, Texas, for the FCS national championship game but bringing home the top trophy, the Redbirds fell short Friday when Richmond left Hancock Stadium with a 39-27 quarterfinal round victory.

ISU coach Brock Spack maintained that while the loss is a disappointment, the 10-3 season is not.

“That is always going to be our goal here. Everybody in the program knows that,” Spack said of a national title. “It was a struggle.
