ISU coach Dan Muller said Wednesday that Ndiaye, a highly regarded 6-foot-9, 190-pound forward from Senegal, has been declared an academic redshirt by the NCAA. That means Ndiaye will be allowed to practice with the Redbirds, but won't be able to play in games or travel with the team this season.

Ndiaye, who is on scholarship, will have four years of eligibility beginning in the fall 2019.

"Abdou is a wonderful kid. We're not surprised at the outcome. We kind of knew that was the case going in, and he knew it," said Muller. "He's very intelligent, but it gets very complicated when you go to a few schools in Senegal and whether they count (courses toward eligibility).
