NORMAL — Anthony Beane Jr. and Nick Banyard parlayed strong individual performances into two crucial victories for their teams in Missouri Valley Conference basketball games last week.
They were recognized for their efforts by the league office on Monday.
Southern Illinois' Beane, a Normal Community High School graduate, was named MVC Player of the Week for the sixth time in his career and second time this season. Banyard, a 6-foot-8 Illinois State junior forward, earned MVC Newcomer of the Week accolades after averaging 13.5 points and 4.5 rebounds off the bench.
Beane, a 6-2 senior guard, scored 31 points in back-to-back games as SIU downed Indiana State and Drake.
