AKRON, Ohio - The Illinois State men's golf team finished in at the top Tuesday at Akron's Firestone Invitational at the par-72, 7,125-yard Firestone Country Club (North Course) in Akron, Ohio, after a well-rounded tournament performance. The Redbirds capped off their first-place finish after leading the 16-team field for almost the entire round, shooting a 7-over-par 295 to finish with a 5-under-par 859 (282-282-295).
Cincinnati came in second and finished one stroke behind of ISU with a 4-under-par 860 (291-282-287), after shooting a 1-under-par 287 as a team in the final round. Akron finished third overall with an 11-over-par 875 (287-282-306).
