NORMAL, Ill. – Sophomore centerback Michaela Kirschten was tabbed the Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon. This is Kirschten's first league honor and Illinois State's fifth weekly award of the year.
Kirschten went the full-90 minutes in ISU's 2-0 victory over UNI on Thursday, anchoring a backline that allowed only four shots on goal in the shutout. Playing every minute of every game so far this year, Kirschten has helped the Redbird defense post three shutouts, all occurring in Valley play.
