GEORGE TOWN, Grand Cayman — Josh Jefferson scored 19 points and Phil Fayne added 18 as Illinois State rallied to down Akron, 73-68, in a Cayman Islands Classic consolation bracket game Tuesday at John Gray Gymnasium.
The Redbirds (3-2) meet the winner of Tuesday's later game between St. Bonaventure and Boise State at 12:30 p.m. (CT) Wednesday in the fifth-place game.
Akron (3-2), which trailed by 13 in the first half, took a 58-54 midway through the second half. But Jefferson scored 11 straight points for the Redbirds and keyed a 12-2 run to help ISU take control.
