Illinois State women's basketball team awakens from slow start, rolls past Truman State in opener

The Redbirds would prove that shortly thereafter, reeling off 18 straight second-quarter points and sailing to an 87-60 season-opening victory over Division II Truman State at Redbird Arena.

ISU trailed 12-8 and was being outrebounded, 12-7, when Gillespie called her timeout at the 3:07 mark of the opening quarter. The Redbird coach sent five new players in the game.

The Redbirds, who had missed their first five from 3-point range, assumed a 58-42 edge on a Cameron Call 3-pointer and took a 62-43 margin into the final 10 minutes.
