NORMAL — Thousands of kids from 26 area elementary schools brought their voices and dance moves to CEFCU Arena on Wednesday for Illinois State’s Education Day.
While spirits were high among the ISU women’s basketball's record crowd of 7,581, Redbirds coach Kristen Gillespie was decidedly less enthusiastic about her team’s performance in a 90-86 nonconference victory over pesky Southern Illinois Edwardsville.
“To be honest, we’re fortunate to come away with a win,” Gillespie said. “Our attention to detail and our urgency is lacking. That is on me. I need to do a better job of demanding that every day.
