Illinois State's golf team fired a 4-under par 284 on Tuesday to move from 12th to a ninth-place tie as the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate concluded at Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course in Mobile, Ala.
Senior David Perkins led the Redbirds, shooting a 2-under 70 for a 211 total to tie for 14th individually. ISU's three-round total was 865.
Florida State bested the 14-team field with 836, a stroke ahead of Illinois with Louisville another shot back in third. John Pak of Florida State was medalist by six strokes after a 66-201.
Pole vaulter honored: Illinois State sophomore Eddie Winner earned the first Missouri Valley Conference Field Athlete of the Week honor of his career for his performance in the pole vault at the Meyo Invite over the weekend, becoming the fifth Redbird student-athlete in the last four weeks to earn an MVC weekly award.
