From Underdog to Division 1

DeAnna Wilson's journey to becoming a Division I basketball player is far from typical. The rising sophomore for Illinois State women's basketball only started playing basketball during her eighth-grade year because of her brothers and has since become a key player for every team she's been a part of.

A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Wilson played for Cardinal Ritter College Prep during high school. In that time frame, she was able to improve her game and fine-tune some of the basics of basketball.

"It just took a little bit longer to develop some of the basic skills, my shooting, my form, my ball handing and finishing at the basket," Wilson said of starting basketball so late in the game.
