CHICAGO – It all came down to the No. 2 singles match between Illinois State's Tara Damjanovic and UIC's Lucie Prochazkova to decide Saturday's match between the Redbirds and the Flames. After dropping the first set in a tiebreaker, Damnjanovic rallied to win the final two sets to secure a 4-3 victory for ISU at the XS Tennis Village.
The win for the Redbirds was their first over their in-state counterparts since 2014.
"I'm really proud of this group, they had to dig deep after losing the doubles point, which is usually something we rely on," ISU head coach Maja Kovacek said.
