College Report: Illinois State softball coach Melinda Fischer nets 1,100th career victory

Illinois State softball coach Melinda Fischer earned her 1,100th career victory on Friday with an 11-4 win over Austin Peay in the Holiday Inn Hilltopper Spring Fling at Bowling Green, Ky.

Fischer is the 19th Division I softball coach to reach 1,100 and ranks 11th among active coaches in wins. The Redbirds had defeated IUPUI, 5-0, earlier Friday and have an 8-7 record.

Junior Morgan Day struck out a career-high 18 in the win over IUPUI, allowing one hit and walking one. Mack Leonard and Spenser Strandgard hit home runs for hte Redbirds.

Day (5-2) got the win in relief against Austin Peay, allowing one hit and no runs in 4u2153 innings.
