Illinois State track standout Derek Wegman, a Tri-Valley High School graduate, was among four Missouri Valley Conference student-athletes to receive a $5,000 postgraduate scholarship from the conference, Commissioner Doug Elgin announced Thursday.
Wegman competed in track the past four seasons. He earned All-MVC status at the 2019 indoor championships byr finishing third in the long jump. He also was sixth in the heptathlon at the 2018 MVC Indoor Championship.
Wegman maintained a 3.86 GPA while studying Recreation Management and plans to pursue a master’s degree in Sport Management at ISU beginning this fall.
