Illinois State's women's basketball coach Kristen Gillespie is grateful to be getting Maya Wong sooner than expected after the Redbirds announced Wednesday the Normal Community High School standout has signed a scholarship agreement with ISU.
Wong said last month she would be taking online classes this summer and graduating a year early from NCHS before enrolling at ISU in the fall semester. She will practice with the Redbirds, but plans to redshirt for the 2019-20 season.
“Maya is an elite competitor in everything she does and plays extremely hard," said Gillespie. "She is a skilled point guard with great court vision and a high basketball IQ.
