Morgan Day pitched a two-hitter and Emme Olson drove in the game's only run as Illinois State's softball team edged Valparaiso, 1-0, Friday in a Missouri Valley Conference contest at Valparaiso, Ind.
Day (8-15) struck out seven and walked four. Olson, an Olympia High School graduate, had two of the three hits for the Redbirds (15-32, 9-10), including a two-out, RBI single in the third inning.
Valparaiso's Jenna Edwards (6-17) struck out 10 and walked three as her team fell to 15-28, 4-20. The series continues Saturday with a noon doubleheader at the Valpo Softball Complex.
