Jacob Hendren pitched eight strong innings Friday to lead the Illinois State baseball team to a 2-1 victory over Western Michigan in the Snowbird Classic at Port Charlotte, Fla.
Hendren, a senior left-hander, allowed one unearned run, struck out seven and walked none while giving up five hits. Jack Landwehr pitched a perfect ninth for his second save.
ISU (5-8) scored both of its runs in the seventh on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly by Joe Kelch and an RBI single by Ryan Hutchinson. Daniel Dwyer and Hutchinson had two hits each for ISU.
Softball splits pair: Jordan de los Reyes' RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted the ISU softball team over Jacksonville State, 8-7, at the Red and Black Classic in Louisville, Ky.
