Illinois Wesleyan senior Nia Joiner was named Midwest track athlete of the year and Chris Schumacher was tabbed as women's head coach of the year for indoor track by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Joiner equaled the NCAA Division III record in the 60-meter dash, clocking 7.51 seconds to win the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin crown. The old record was 7.67.
Schumacher, in his 19th year at IWU, guided his squad to the CCIW title. The Titan women enter this weekend's NCAA meet as the No. 1-ranked team with a meet-best 11 entries at Grinnell, Iowa.
