NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State senior distance runner Grace Beattie shattered the Redbird Outdoor Track & Field Complex facility record, winning the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:06.28 on Friday afternoon at the Redbird Invite.
Beattie, whose time just missed Wendy Van Mierlo's 1983 school record of 16:06.05, ran the fastest 5,000-meter time of her career, improving her previous best by 29 seconds. With that time, she becomes the No. 2 5,000-meter runner in school history and is only the second Redbird to ever run a sub-16:10 5K.
