EUGENE, Ore. — The goal for Cam Viney was to find himself among the final eight on Wednesday night.
But the Illinois senior, who has dealt with a torn meniscus in his right knee for the majority of the outdoor season, was unable to advance to Friday night’s finals in the 400-meter hurdles at Hayward Field.
Viney clocked in at 50.73 seconds on Wednesday night, good for fifth in his heat and 10th overall. The top two finishers in each heat, which there were three on Wednesday, and the next two best times all moved on.
Viney’s efforts enabled him to earn second-team All-America honors for the second consecutive season at the NCAA Championships.
