HAWTHORN — Urbana Uni High junior-to-be Varun Chopra sat in 10th place after the first two rounds of the Illinois Open Golf Championship on Tuesday with a score of 1-under 142.
Arlington Heights native Brad Marek and former North Carolina State golfer David Cooke finished the second round at 7-under 136 to lead the competition, which is being held at Royal Melbourne Country Club in Long Grove and Hawthorn Woods Country Club in Hawthorn.
After finishing the opening round in a tie for second, Illini sophomore-to-be Nick Hardy slid to 37th place with a second-round score of 9-over 81.
