UPDATE: Former Illini basketball player released after arrest

Judge Brett Olmstead allowed Bertrand, 25, who listed an address in the 200 block of South Wright Street, Champaign, to be released on his own recognizance after hearing a summary of what allegedly happened.

Bertrand, who has no criminal convictions, is scheduled to be back in court Monday. The state’s attorney’s office will decide then if he should be charged with a crime.

Assistant State’s Attorney Jacob Croegaert said Bertrand was arrested shortly before 1 a.
