BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Illinois had enough pitching and defense, but the Illini couldn’t generate enough offense in their 3-1 loss against Indiana on Saturday in a Big Ten Conference baseball game.
“I thought we pitched well,” UI coach Dan Hartleb said of starter Doug Hayes and reliever Cole Bellair. “Doug Hayes gave us a chance to win, and we got out of some big spots.”
Hayes (6-5) allowed three runs on 10 hits in six innings, and Bellair retired six of the seven batters he faced.
The Hoosiers (30-18, 14-6 Big Ten) scored runs in the third, fifth and seventh, but Illinois’ defense thwarted several Indiana scoring chances.
