UI roundup: Baseball wins fifth straight

MATTOON — Behind Jason Goldstein and Andrew Mamlic, Illinois baseball won a one-run game for the first time this season, edging Eastern Illinois 5-4 on Tuesday night.
Goldstein had three hits, including a two-run homer, and Mamlic claimed his second consecutive win as the Illini (18-16) extended their winning streak to a season-best five games.
Mamlic went 6 2/3 innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on three hits.
“We found a way to win,” UI coach Dan Hartleb said of his squad, which is 1-9 in one-run games this season. “That’s the bottom line.”
