URBANA — New University of Illinois Athletic Director Josh Whitman is expected to get formal approval from UI trustees today when his appointment goes before the board’s Executive Committee.
The panel, which takes action on behalf of the full board on time-sensitive matters, is scheduled to vote on Whitman’s appointment after a short executive session at 2 p.m. today.
Whitman’s first full day at the UI isn’t until March 21, but he will be transitioning into the job before then, a spokesman said. The full board doesn’t meet until March 17 in Urbana.
Until the 21st, Whitman will be splitting his time between the UI and Washington University, where he has been athletic director since August 2014.
