When JOSH WHITMAN was a student at the University of Illinois in the 1990s, there wasn't a ceremony to declare a major.
"Back then, you checked a box and sent in a form," he said. "But it was a big decision."
Twenty years later, the Gies College of Business has turned signing day into an event. A year ago, football coach LOVIE SMITH was the special guest. On Thursday, it was athletic director Whitman's turn.
Whitman met with the students in the atrium of the Business Instructional Facility. The students took pictures with their chosen departments.
