No. 32: Jeff George Jr., QB
Why he’s important: If he continues to progress, he’s a play away from possibly taking snaps with the Illini. Wes Lunt is the starter heading into his final season at Illinois, but George Jr. had a fresh slate with new coach Lovie Smith and his staff this spring. Showcasing a solid arm and a good touch on his passes, George Jr. impressed during several spring practices. Offensive coordinator Garrick McGee didn’t name a backup to Lunt once spring ball ended, giving George Jr., along with Jimmy Fitzgerald and Chayce Crouch, the chance to earn playing time should Lunt falter at all this upcoming season.
