CHAMPAIGN — Yes, Ball State coach Mike Neu has been to Memorial Stadium before today. But not for the reason you think.
The summer before his senior year at Indianapolis Perry Meridian High School, the quarterback took an unofficial recruiting visit to see John Mackovic's Illini.
"I was not offered by Illinois," Neu said. "My mom and dad and I went to Champaign for a summer recruiting trip."
Why no offer?
"(Mackovic) had better options," Neu said. "Ken Dilger was offered at that time as a quarterback. Ken and I were teammates in the Indiana North-South All-Star Game.
