URBANA — Carly Thomas and Nicole Evans each hit two-run homers and Kate Giddens pitched 4 2/3 shutout innings, leading Illinois to a 9-7 softball victory against Eastern Illinois on Wednesday at Eichelberger Field.
The teams each scored four runs in the first inning. Evans broke the tie with a shot off the scoreboard, giving the Illini (26-18) a 6-4 advantage.
Danielson garners accolade. The Big Ten selected Illinois’ Charlie Danielson as its Golfer of the Week on Wednesday.
Danielson won the Boilermaker Invitational last weekend, his second individual title of the season, and nabbed his fourth conference honor on Wednesday.
