EUGENE, Ore. — With 15 of 156 athletes and none of 30 teams competing in the NCAA men’s golf championships finishing below par in the event’s first round Friday, Eugene Country Club’s course proved it would be a formidable one.
Illinois was just one of the teams to struggle, carrying a share of 15th place through 18 holes on the par-70 course. The Illini’s 10-over 290 put them 8 strokes behind first-day leaders Arkansas and TCU.
Dylan Meyer was the top Illinois athlete in the first round, finishing at 1 over to hold a share of 33rd individually.
