The native of Jacksonville, Fla., committed to Illinois in March 2015 and enrolled at the UI this past semeter.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Peters was a likely redshirt candidate this season if he stayed at Illinois.

He committed to Illinois with Tim Beckman still in charge of the program, and cited the close relationship he developed with Bill Cubit and Ryan Cubit for key reasons why he picked Illinois after a strong junior season at Sandalwood High School, where he threw for 2,222 yards and 18 touchdowns and ran for 496 yards and six TDs.
