SAVOY — Josh Whitman didn't waste the opportunity in front of a captive crowd of Illinois supporters. Speaking before the start of the 27th annual Kendall Gill Golf Outing, the first-year Illini athletic director made a point to bring up the two main points he broaches with every group he speaks to — encouraging a positive attitude and confidence in the fan base.
Also on Whitman's docket this summer? The final stage of $169.5 million worth of renovations at State Farm Center, which he said will conclude in time for the start of the 2016-17 basketball season. No early-season trips to Springfield or Parkland College necessary.
