BOCA RATON, Fla. — Illinois baseball had the rally caps working late in Friday night's series opener at Florida Atlantic.
Jeff Korte clubbed a game-tying three-run homer to right field and Zac Taylor earned a bases-loaded walk to plate the go-ahead run as the Illini rallied for four runs in the ninth inning before eventually collecting a stunning 7-6 victory over the host Owls.
Korte — a Melbourne, Fla., native — had a two-homer night, also hitting a two-run shot in the second inning to stake Illinois (4-0) to an early lead. FAU (3-2) rallied, however, scoring two runs in the second, third and sixth innings to pull ahead 6-3.
