Speed is an area that this coaching regime has tried to snag on multiple occasions for the program. Illinois was void of speed on the team when Lovie Smith took over back in 2016. Since then, he has added more speed and continues to recruit speed. That is one of the reasons why the Illini are now targeting Kaleb Killian.
Killian is a 5-foot-10, 160-pound athlete from Trinity Christian Academy in Jacksonville, Florida. He isn’t rated or ranked yet by 247Sports but that is probably because they haven’t released their full rankings for the class of 2021.
