Illinois Football: Carroll Phillips Is a Great Tool for Lovie’s Defense

Defensive end Carroll Phillips is going to be starting alongside a group of talented defensive linemen this season. He will be looked at to help guide this defense into one of the best in the Big Ten.

Phillips was a linebacker coming out of Copiah-Lincoln Community College. He wasn’t looked at by a ton of college teams, but he caught Illinois’ eye.

Illinois had to compete with Temple and Middle Tennessee to snag this talented prospect. But, the recruiting rankings didn’t see him in the same light.

Phillips was only rated as a 2-star recruit as a JUCO.
