COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Dan Rowbottom capped a fourth-inning rally with a two-run single Saturday for Illinois baseball, giving the Illini a 4-2 win against Maryland in the first game of a Big Ten doubleheader. The Terrapins pulled out a 3-1 victory in Game 2 for the split.
Rowbottom’s knock in the opener followed a Pat McInerney RBI single, erasing a 2-1 Illini deficit. It made a winner of Cody Sedlock (5-2), who tossed a complete-game three-hitter for Illinois, striking out seven.
Kevin Smith’s three-run homer for Maryland (25-20, 10-7) in the seventh inning of Game 2 was the damaging blow against the Illini (24-20, 8-9).
