ILLINI LEGENDS, LISTS & LORE: Single-Game Scoring Bests

Twenty-two years ago today—Jan. 14, 1996—Ashley Berggren scored a career-high 43 points to lead the Fighting Illini women's basketball team past Minnesota, 87-76.

The sophomore sharpshooter from Barrington scored 24 points in the first half, then tallied 19 more in the second half. Berggren missed only six of the 21 outside shots she took and just one of her 14 free throw attempts.

"I just wanted to get the ball in my hands because I knew I could do something with it," Berggren told the Daily Illini afterward.
