URBANA — Standing in the Urbana Country Club hallway after completing the opening round of the 88th Twin City Championship on Saturday, Tim Hoss Jr. pulled a golf ball-sized rock from his pocket.
The rock greeted Hoss in the sand trap on the 18th hole and ended up on the green instead of his ball. It was the only thing keeping him from a day without any bogeys.
“I’ll probably throw it in the lake later on,” Hoss said with a laugh.
Besides the rock, Hoss had plenty to be happy about at the end of the first round of the two-day tournament that concludes Sunday at Champaign Country Club.
