Many Illini fans have anxiously been awaiting updates on the health of legendary former basketball coach Lou Henson, who is receiving medical care in Houston to treat a bone marrow disorder.
Mark Coomes was an assistant coach under Henson at Illinois from 1985 to 1994, including during the team’s 1989 run to the Final Four. Coomes and Henson remain close friends and have been in steady contact. Henson recently was diagnosed with a bone marrow disorder, which will require chemotherapy to treat.
“He’s very comfortable and upbeat,” Coomes said during Saturday's radio appearance on WDWS 1400-AM. “I talk to him often, and he’s got a great attitude about it.
