EUGENE, Ore. — Of course, Mike Small’s Illinois golfers had their best round of the NCAA Championships on the last day of stroke play. That’s how they roll.
The Illini finished 4 under in Monday’s final 18, the best score of the day. Actually, the best score of the tournament. That vaulted the team from ninth to second place and into today’s match-play quarterfinals at Eugene Country Club.
“We talked about finishing off the tournament, and we did today,” Small said. “I’m feeling good. We’ve got momentum and we’re learning the golf course more and more every day.
