TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — Oakwood’s Jon Davis, eight days removed from winning the IHSA state cross-country title, captured the Nike Cross-Country Midwest Regional title Sunday and qualified for a national event.
Davis, who committed to the University of Illinois late last month, completed the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross-Country Course in 14:59.9, less than two seconds clear of runner-up Benjamin Veatch from Lemrac, Ind.
A photo posted to Twitter by MileSplitUS shows Davis crossing the finish line with his right arm raised with a caption saying Davis beat Veatch “with a HUGE kick” in the race’s final moments.
