For the 93rd consecutive year, the Kiwanis Club of Champaign sponsored the Illinois basketball program’s season-end banquet. Marcus Jackson highlights three things that stood out in the 2014-15 edition, held Monday at the I Hotel:
No Colbert
Sophomore forward Austin Colbert was the lone member of the team who did not attend the banquet. His mom, Brenda, accepted his awards on his behalf. Following the banquet, Illinois coach John Groce hinted that an additional scholarship might soon open. Asked if anything should be read into Colbert’s absence, Groce said, “We’ll see.
