Clark is young, not restless

CHAMPAIGN — When Southern Cal is playing late-night games this season, Clancy Pendergast will be checking earlier scores in the Big Ten. Particularly, Illinois.

"They've got a new fan," Pendergast said.

The Trojans defensive coordinator plans to follow the work of his former graduate assistant Austin Clark, who recently was hired as Illinois' defensive line coach. The 27-year-old is ready for the job, Pendergast said.

"He's a very good communicator, he has very good teaching skills and his organization is very good," Pendergast said. "He has a unique ability to interact with all different types of personalities.
