Illinois catcher Jason Goldstein was taken in the MLB draft on Friday for the second consecutive year, chosen this time by the Seattle Mariners.
Seattle took Goldstein in the ninth round, at No. 267 overall, after he was drafted in the 17th round by the Los Angeles Dodgers last year.
Goldstein joins pitchers Tyler Jay, Cody Sedlock and Kevin Duchene and first baseman David Kerian as top-10-round draft picks for Illinois baseball in the last two years. Sedlock was taken in Thursday's first round, at No. 27 overall, by the Baltimore Orioles.
Sedlock was the top Illini for the 2016 season in batting average (.
