CHAMPAIGN — Former Illini football coach Tim Beckman, who was fired last August, will get a one-time payout of $250,000 under a settlement announced Tuesday by the University of Illinois.
The UI fired Beckman after receiving preliminary reports from an external investigation that found he had deterred injury reporting and influenced medical decisions that pressured players to avoid or postpone medical treatment. Beckman denied the allegations and indicated he would pursue legal action.
He did not receive the $3.1 million remaining on the remaining two years of his five-year contract, or the $743,000 called for if his contract had been bought out.
