Baseball team needs some help

CHAMPAIGN — Illinois is no longer in sole control of its Big Ten tournament fate. That only would have come with a win Thursday night against Michigan.

But a Cody Sedlock fastball that caught maybe just too much of the plate led to a fifth-inning solo home run by the Wolverines’ Johnny Slater. It was Slater’s first home run of the season, just the fourth allowed by Sedlock this spring, and it stood as the lone run in Michigan’s 1-0 victory at Illinois Field.

“We knew we were controlling our own fate,” said Sedlock, who gave up three hits, walked three and struck out seven in a complete-game effort.
