Baseball completes sweep of Redbirds

CHAMPAIGN — The offense kept rolling. So did the wins.

Illinois baseball finished off a three-game sweep of Illinois State with a dominating 12-1 victory on Sunday in front of 661 fans at Illinois Field.

The Illini led 9-0 by the second inning and didn't let up against the Redbirds, relying on four home runs and solid outings from six pitchers.

Ben Troike hit his first two home runs of the season for Illinois (17-4) and finished 3 of 5 with three runs scored out of the leadoff spot. Cam McDonald (2 for 5, four RBI) and Grant Van Scoy (3 for 4, two RBI) also hit home runs — their first of the season — to stake the Illini to their early advantage.
